The Dwelling of God

Series: The Worthy Walk Topic: Peace, Unity Scripture: Ephesians 2:11–22

What do you think of when you hear the phrase; ‘dwelling place of God’?  Angels? Clouds? Glorious Splendor and Brilliant light? Many of us consider the dwelling place of God to be heaven. In Old Testament times, the dwelling place of God was considered to be the Tabernacle and later the Temple. But God’s permanent residence is in another dimension.

A house can have a name on it or a number to identify it. But it doesn’t become a home until someone lives/dwells in it. As the apostle Paul called the followers of Jesus to  loving community in the region of Ephesus; his concern was that they might more fully understand what God was doing in their midst. What was He doing? He was building a house or more accurately; a home (v.22). He was also building a Holy Temple (v.21)

It has been said that unity with harmonious diversity is a thing of beauty. That is the picture that Holy Writ paints for us of the Body of Christ; locally and universally. It is our goal and we are all on the pathway towards that goal. Through the Cross of Jesus Christ and his shed blood, sin was paid for, wrath was removed and replaced with peace. Now; for those in Christ, there is but ONE family, ONE household, ONE foundation, ONE building, ONE cornerstone. The walls of hostility have come down. And the family must learn to get along as brothers and sisters. When there is peace in the family of God; that is where God dwells. What are we doing to promote peace and unity?
