The Fuel For Hope

Preacher: Pastor Pete Hoglund Series: Living Hope Topic: Hope Scripture: 1 Peter 2:1–12

Years ago I was informed that the reason my leaf blower wasn’t running well was because of the bad fuel I was putting in it. The blower is a finicky thing whose fuel has to be mixed just right. I tried to mix my own but it gave me trouble. I was advised to buy premixed 50:1 if I wanted my blower to work. I have since done that and make periodic trips to Lowes to buy my fuel.

When we think about the Christians living hope we must remember that it begins with God and the resurrection and is anchored in grace, looks like holiness, reverence and love but the fuel for our living hope is the Word.  If the Christian wants to have a living hope (1 Peter 1:3) one must be born through and spend time with the living and endure word of God (1 Peter 1:23) so that we can know the Living Stone (1 Peter 2:4). Similarly our living hope is encouraged or fueled as we are reminded of how God sees us as “a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation and a people that have been purchased by God (1 Peter 2:9). As we live out our hope in faith, doing good, people will see the newness of life in us bringing glory to God when Jesus returns. Our living hope is also fueled by our witness (1 Peter 2:12).

Will read the Word today to put gas in the tank? Reflect on Psalm 119

What do you think about God actually purchasing your life and sin debt? (Acts 20:28)

What good deed will you do today, not to earn your salvation but as expression of your hope?

The fuel for our hope is the Word, Christian Identity and Witness
