Giving For Christ

Preacher: Pastor Pete Hoglund Series: Foundations for a New Year Topic: Tithing, Stewardship Scripture: Genesis 39:1–4

When an electrician comes to visit you in your home to do some work for you there is a high likelihood that the topic of “conduit” may come up. In order to have safe and reliable power, we need to follow certain codes and regulations. Conduit is either a PVC or metal material the electrician runs his power wiring through to protect the wire from the elements or potential threats. This ensures the power can reliably be delivered to accomplished its intended purpose.

Art Rainer says, “God has designed us not to be hoarders, but conduits through which His generosity flows.”

Giving for Christ introduces us to the concept of stewardship and as RC Sproul says, “Stewardship is to be a servant before Christ and it is a matter of economics. It has to do not only with money or taxes or business but with the management of resources."

When God created it all in Genesis (Genesis 1:27-28), He said to Adam, “Take care of my resources. Take care of all of it. Manage it for me. You don’t own it but I want you to take care of it.” God wants us to manage what He has entrusted to us. Managing means He owns it. We do not. How are you managing His resources?

Will you pray today for wisdom about how you are caring for His resources? Every dime and every possession, all your time and all your strength come through His hand. How will you give back what He already owns? (1 Chronicles 29:12)
